A large drop in passenger numbers has seen budget airline jet2.com cancel one of its Blackpool to Alicante routes. The flight affected travelled on Tuesdays.

The airline were quick to stress that no other Alicante flights from Blackpool would be affected. Many locals have set up second homes in the Spanish region so were disappointed to hear their options had been cut.

A spokesperson for jet2.com said that Alicante was still a hugely popular destination but the demand was just not there anymore for Tuesday flights. Readers of this blog will be pleased to hear that there is still a Murcia service on Tuesdays.

There are nine jet2.com routes from Blackpool at the moment with an Ibiza service just added. This runs twice a week.

Speaking on behalf of Blackpool Airport Sue Kendrick, expressed disappointment at losing the flight but nonetheless was happy to retain all other jet2.com flights.
